All
baptized Christians are encouraged to come forward to the altar
to receive the communion bread and wine or the priest’s
blessing. Parents are encouraged to have even very young
children participate in the Eucharist. They are Baptized members
and we hope they would never remember a time when they are
refused at the table of the Lord. Their level of understanding
of this sacrament grows as their participation in both Church
School and the Service continues. We have a high level of lay
participation in the worship Services. The Old Testament and
Epistle are read by lay lectors, the Psalm and Prayers of the
People are read from the congregation. We have many persons
involved as Chalice Bearers and Lay Eucharist Ministers. Others
find their niche as ushers or greeters.
Our young people are invited to be involved in the Services from
an early age, beginning in third grade as torch bearers and
gradually moving into the roles of crucifer and acolytes. Our
post-Confirmation young adults (8th grade and up), begin to take
on lay reading, greeting and ushering.
Opportunity to sing in the parish choirs are offered at the
Sunday 10:30 am Service. |
