Rite 13 and Journey to Adulthood
Rite 13 for Grades 7 - 9 &
J2A for teens in grades 10 -12
9:15 a.m. on Sundays
“Journey to Adulthood” has been very popular in the Episcopal
Church because it celebrates the very real need for rites of
passage for young people as they grow into adulthood. Using the
resources of scripture, our prayer book tradition, and
discussion of current issues, the curriculum is a way to help
young people make sense of the experiences they are having in
their lives.
Rite-13, for grades 7-8-9, is a mixture of discussion, study,
and frequent snacks! The group meets on Sundays at 9:15 am and
about once a month for fun events.
Our High School youth in grades 10-12 are known as "J2A,”
which focuses on the four areas of spiritual and emotional
development concerning teens: Self, Society, Sexuality, and
Spirituality. The curriculum integrates discussion, movies,
service projects, social events, and a bi-yearly "pilgrimage" to
teach skills necessary for adulthood in the context of our
faith.
Rite 13 and J2A youth are involved in the life of the parish
by serving as acolytes and lay readers. Their outreach projects
include helping in the food bank, making desert survival packets
for the No More Deaths Campaign, and providing holiday gifts for
teen moms and babies at Starshine Academy. Recent Fun events
have included trips to Castles & Coasters, Phoenix Zoo Lights,
laser tag and an overnight "lock-in" and movie marathon. |
