About

Welcome to St. Stephen's!

Whatever your religious background and however you have come to be here with us, we welcome you. We hope that you will feel comforted and fulfilled, and that through worship and fellowship you will be strengthened to meet the challenges of your daily lives. If  you are traveling through our community, actively searching for a church, or visiting this web page simply out of curiosity, we invite you to explore this site, to come and worship with us and to learn more about how St. Stephens might impact your life. We encourage everyone interested in exploring membership to contact us in order to receive a newcomer packet. We would love to welcome you into this community of faith.

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church is a member parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona and The Episcopal Church, USA, which is the United States province of the Anglican Communion. As Episcopalians, we look to Scripture, tradition and reason as the cornerstones of our faith. We invite you to learn more about how Episcopal beliefs and traditions can impact your own life. We encourage you to attend one of our worship services, experience our rich worship and music heritage, and afterwards to visit the Patio or Frederickson Hall for coffee and fellowship.

Founded in 1962, St. Stephen's is a vibrant parish of 350 baptized members.  Although many live nearby, our parishioners also come from elsewhere in metropolitan Phoenix, Maricopa County, and other neighboring communities. It is most likely that  you will meet someone much like yourself!

St. Stephen's offers you abundant opportunities for personal and spiritual growth, and for helping others. Our Christian education program comprises Godly Play, a Sunday school curriculum for children (age 4 to 3rd Grade), the On the Edge program tailored for 3rd through 7th grade, the F.A.I.T.H. experience for middle-school and high-school youth, and Sunday forums and adult classes covering a variety of topics. Our youngest children enjoy their introduction to Bible stories in the nursery. Our Community Service Ministries help the less fortunate in our neighborhood and the larger Phoenix community. Our myriad parish ministries provide opportunities for fellowship among and assistance to our parishioners.

The parish is located in East Phoenix and borders the City of Scottsdale.  The grounds contain an adobe building, known as St. Stephen’s house and home to the Montessori school, and occasionally used as sleeping quarters for retreats held at St. Stephen’s.  The cottage is across a desert landscape courtyard from St. Stephen’s house and is used as a classroom.  The Church itself sits just west of the Cottage with entrance on the south side of the building.  West of the church is a Memorial Garden at the north end of a grass lawn, with a children’s playground on the south end.  At the west end of the property is an L-shaped building which houses Christian formation classes,  parish offices, the small commercial kitchen, and the parish hall.
